The City
Nanaimo (British Columbia) is the second largest city on beautiful Vancouver Island with about 80,000 inhabitants. The island is just like the rest of the west coast of Canada: breathtakingly beautiful and has something to offer for nature lovers. Whether you prefer surfing or skiing, whale watching in the Pacific, cycling, stand up paddling (SUP), kayaking or climbing in the mountains – during a semester abroad, you will definitely not be bored.
The University
The semester abroad at Vancouver Island University, runs either from January to April or from September to December. Students can take 5 courses (30 ECTS) per semester at VIU and can mix and match classes from our different undergraduate programs during their semester abroad at Vancouver Island University. A business administration student could thus also take a jazz course or a Photoshop course in addition to business courses (if this is permitted by the home university). Another advantage of the semester abroad at VIU is that Vancouver Island University is a state university and still has a maximum course size of 34 students.
