WHYG - “We help. You grow!“

Individual support for students to enhance their study skills.

ESB Business School is implementing an innovative and scientifically backed project to support new students in developing their study skills, initially set as a model in the International Management Double Degree Bachelor’s programme.

Due to the growing heterogeneity of the student community, the transition to university is increasingly becoming a multifactorial challenge for many students. More and more frequently students do not realize their own scope for action or do so too late in the course of their studies, meaning that extra-curricular support services are not sufficiently taken up. It is therefore becoming more and more urgent for universities to supplement the broad transfer of knowledge with more individual support and to embed this in the curriculum.

The “We help. You grow!” project at ESB Business School, which started on 1st April 2024, is being funded by the Foundation for Innovation in Higher Education for a total of two years.

A core objective of the project is the development of a diagnostic tool that matches the study requirements and is used to assess students at three points in their initial study phase (before the start of their studies, between the first and second semester and after the completion of the first year) with regard to various study skills.  Based on this established measuring instrument, students are given an individual learning path by the Managerial Skills I + II Module of their degree programme. To this end, the module will be evaluated and revised as part of the project. The continuous review of learning success is intended to reflect back to students their own progress so that the knowledge gained in the course forms a very conscious milestone for the academic and professional success of the students.

In addition, the data collected are used to scientifically validate the success of the project. In order to make the findings gained from the project period available for use in the long term, it is a concern of the project to perpetuate the methods that have proven themselves and to make them accessible to further student cohorts. Furthermore, scientific publications, conference contributions and close communication with the partner universities of ESB Business School are planned in order to discuss the data collected and the findings gained with a wider (academic) audience. In this way, the practices that are tested during the project period will be put under scrutiny in order to optimize the proposals for long-term use.

“A new, exceptional approach. Highly qualified lecturers. New ideas”

“[…] It gave me more motivation to start my studies in a structured way.”
